Travel And Scuba Dive

Many of the most fun things in life are addictive, and many of them are unhealthy or expensive, or both. Travelling is healthy, but expensive. Once most people have been to another country or continent on vacation they often ‘get the bug’ and no longer want to remain settled in their homeland. It’s not only the younger generation of backpackers (and now bratpackers) who are spending much of their time and money on travelling to new places. Retirees and even middle-aged couples are doing the same.

There are so many places in this wonderful world to visit and photograph. Ancient ruins, waterfalls, caves, jungles, wildlife reserves and underwater oases are just a few examples. Social media such as Facebook and Flickr are ways of seeing that regular people can get out there, enjoy themselves and share their memories. Low-cost airlines, the increasing number of international airports and road building all help those lucky enough to have the opportunities and funds to visit places they had never heard of a few years ago. Some people are even lucky enough to stay away – travelling and working as they go. While this is not easy in many occupations, there are a few which enable the traveller to pay his or her way with work. Language teaching is one, but schools often prefer some kind of stability and well-dressed, qualified teachers. Language teaching is also usually based in towns and cities, rather than exciting tourist locations.
One of the best and most enjoyable ways to travel and work is by becoming a scuba diving instructor or Divemaster. By doing this, one is able to lead an enviable lifestyle near a beach or on an island. Meeting new and different people every day and helping them to enjoy themselves by teaching them to dive or guiding them around the reef, showing them fish and other creatures, is fun and rewarding. It can also pay the bills and help to fund the next part of the journey. Although on land cultures and languages are different all around the world, underwater things are surprisingly similar. Diving techniques and sign language are universal worldwide. Travelling around the world while diving can be done on a sensible budget, and paid for by working in diving. In fact, in certain parts of the world, one doesn’t need to travel far to follow the high season all year, for example, from Thailand or The Philippines to Indonesia or Australia where the seasons are opposite to each other. Scuba travel is one of the best ways to enjoy visiting places all over the world while earning a living doing so.
